Russell Miller - Head Coach and Athletic Director

Coach Russell began his coaching journey at the tender age of 16 at Golden Triangle Gymnastics in Denton, TX in 1996 while attending his first cheerleading workouts with a friend.  Having learned to spot back-handsprings before he could even do one, Russell immediately developed a passion for teaching.

While attending summer camp as member of the Billy Ryan High School Varsity Cheer Team, which placed 4thin the Small Co-ed division at the NCA High School National Championship in 1998, Russell was awarded All-American and recruited to join the Cheer Athletics Wildcats, with whom he went on to win multiple state & national titles including the NCA National Championship, which was the most prestigious title predating The Cheerleading Worlds. He was also invited to join NCA Staff with which he spent the next 4 years teaching summer camps, working events, judging competitions & try-outs and apprenticing under the most influential instructors of the era.  During his time with NCA, Russell was awarded the Rookie Instructor of the Year and the Veteran Instructor of the Year award twice.

Russell’s next coaching stop was at North Texas Acro Sports in Pilot Point, TX where he studied Power Tumbling & Trampoline and was given the responsibility of coaching his first cheer team for Pilot Point High School.

After graduating high school in 1998, Russell was recruited to The University of Texas cheer team where he was awarded “Most Improved” for both his freshman and sophomore years and placed 7that the NCA Collegiate National Championships.  He graduated in 2002 with a B.S. in Kinesiology specializing in Coaching Theory and Pre-Med with a minor in Biology.

From 1998 to 2002, Russell worked his way through college coaching teams and classes at Cheer Station Inc.  There he received an in-depth education in All-Star Cheer, elite level spotting, choreography, music production and gym management from his mentors Brad Page and Ladd LeBus.

From 2002 to 2005, Russell was the Cheer & Tumbling director at National Elite Gymnastics where for the first time he oversaw a program of his own.  These years saw the program grow from 8 kids to over 50 and the winning of numerous state and national titles.

The success of NEC lead to the opening of Russell’s first gym, THE ELITE CHEER COMPANY, in 2005.  Over the next 11 years TECC trained and mentored countless athletes, won over 150 nationals titles, placed first in THE ONE Championships, won the International All-Levels Championship twice, was awarded the USASF Chairman’s Cup for community outreach, attended The Dance Worlds twice, and competed in The Cheer Worlds twice as the smallest gym to qualify, culminating in an amazing 18thplace finish in the International Open Co-ed Division with Russell acting as both head coach and a competitor.  Though these years were highly successful competitively, Russell’s greatest takeaway from TECC has been the countless relationships built and maintained to this day between the athletes as they’ve grown into amazing adults both amongst themselves and with him.  TECC may have closed in 2016 but will never be forgotten!!  THE ELITE… THAT’S WHO WE ARE… TECC… THE BEST BY FAR!!

Following TECC, Russell found his way to Lakeway to work for a former student, Haley McKinney, at her gym, 3F, where he learned the up and coming sport of Acrobatics and Tumbling.  This was a fateful turn of events, as without Haley and 3F, Electric Avenue would have never come to be as not only was he introduced to A&T but was also blessed to meet Bailey and her parents, Bobby & Gretchen Vance. This fortuitous meeting would sow the seeds that would become EAA.

After the closure of 3F, and a brief stop as the director of Acrobatics & Tumbling at Champions in Lakeway, Russell and the Vance’s partnered in the opening of Electric Avenue Acro in the fall of 2017. In a short time, EAA has already become the nation’s top A&T training facility and is proud to serve the Lake Travis community.  Russell is extremely proud to call EAA home.  ROCK DOWN TO…. ELECTRIC AVENUE!!
