Junior Olympic Acrobatics & Tumbling
Acrobatics & Tumbling has grown exponentially as a varsity sport since the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association (NCATA) was established in 2010 as the sport’s governing body.
The sport of Acrobatics & Tumbling is the evolution of different skill sets used in Cheerleading and Gymnastics. At the collegiate level, A&T competes on the campuses of member universities, just like any other organized college sport. The meets are generally held in a basketball arena where each team competes head to head with live scoring based on execution of the six skill sets broken down into 20 different heats. Depending on the particular heat, there can be anywhere from 1 to 24 athletes on the floor at any given time.
At the Club level, A&T is recognized as a Junior Olympics sport governed by USA Gymnastics under their Gymnastics For All Program. Clubs from around the country compete in local and regional qualifying tournaments to earn a place at the National Championships held each year. Teams at the Club level typically consist of 15 athletes, both boys and girls, who fill positions such as bases, mid-bases and tops, all of whom possess a variety of skills. For the 2019-2020 season our program will field a total of five (5) Teams; one at the Senior level, two at the Junior level and two at the Youth level. Our A&T Program was the first of its kind to be devoted solely to the sport and is considered the top A&T program in the Nation with more medals and placements than any other A&T program in the Nation.
In addition to our Competitive Teams, we also field a World Class Show Team consisting of all athletes enrolled in the A&T program. These amazing athletes put on an expertly choreographed routine that has performed for literally thousands of people at NBA Basketball games, G-League games, the Harlem Globetrotters, Collegiate A&T Matches and numerous local and regional events.
With the addition of our Pre-Team A&T Program, we are now in a unique position to prepare younger aspiring athletes for a future on one of our Competitive A&T Teams.
As the sport continues to grow, more and more scholarship opportunities are available at many Colleges and Universities around the country.
A&T is a team focused sport that requires dedication, commitment and lots of hard work, which is a great way for aspiring athletes to perfect their skills while building teamwork, sportsmanship, goal setting and making lifelong friendships, not to mention the conditioning component for a healthy lifestyle.
